Olive Oil & Genetics

Can Extra Virgin Olive Oil alter a person’s genes?

Many studies have shown that the Mediterranean diet and Extra Virgin Olive Oil contain nutrients (phenolic compounds and bioactive molecules) with anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-aging and neuroprotective activities. The health benefits of EVOO are partly related to their ability to influence molecules in the body that change human gene expression and metabolic function. We call these effects “Nutri-epigenomics” – how nutrients influence gene expression, metabolism and health.
