Antioxidants & Polyphenols

What is the Difference Between Antioxidants and Polyphenols?

You know how all bourbon is whiskey, but not all whiskey is bourbon? Well the answer to this question is very similar. Antioxidants are a class of molecules that protect our bodies from the damage of oxygen free radicals. Damage by oxygen free radicals can lead to various conditions including cardiovascular disease, cancer and dementia. Polyphenols are a type of antioxidant that is found in Extra Virgin Olive Oil that helps to neutralize oxygen free radicals. Polyphenols like hydroxytyrosol, oleuropein, and oleocanthal and other antioxidants in EVOO may prevent oxidative stress and in doing so prevent various diseases.
