- - JUST RELEASED! July 15, 2010
UC Davis Report stating that:
"Tests indicate that imported "extra virgin" olive oil
often fails international and USDA standards".
According to the new study, more than 69% of imported olive oils sold in California supermarkets and big box retailers as "extra virgin" failed to meet the internationally-accepted standards yet are mislabeled as extra virgin olive oil.

- - April News:
The USDA published the standard for olive oil in the Federal Register on
April 28, 2010. The standard will take effect on October 25, 2010. The COOC
filed the petition with the USDA in August 2005 for adoption of a standard,
especially for extra virgin olive oil. This is an historic achievement for
consumers, retailers and the entire California olive oil industry.
California produces over 99 % of the nation's olive oil.

The COOC petitioned the USDA in 2005 requesting the adoption on
internationally accepted standards for grades of olive oil. We are still
awaiting adoption of these standards.
